In our ongoing journey towards better protection for maritime and hydraulic components, Griekspoor Thermal Coatings, an industry-leading international company specializing in the application and finishing of piston rod coatings, conducted an extensive field test in the harsh environment of the Singapore sea harbor.
Two products from our TOPCOAT range, TOPCOAT CCR + and TOPCOAT +, were put to the ultimate endurance test. The coated rods spent 18 months in the demanding tide zone, enduring cycles of 6 hours underwater and 6 hours above the water line, under average temperatures exceeding 30°C. The challenge: to resist the aggressive fouling, marine pollution, and prolonged sunlight exposure of Singapore's port environment.
The primary objective of this rigorous test was to scrutinize the stain- and corrosion-resistance of the coatings. After removal of fouling, we were delighted to find that both coatings presented a stain- and corrosion-free surface, affirming their robust protective qualities.
TOPCOAT + features a nickel-based superalloy and a ceramic top layer, enhancing corrosion and chemical resistance. This coating is perfect for hydraulic components, plungers, automotive industry parts, and wear-resistant sealing and sleeve bearing surfaces. On the other hand, TOPCOAT CCR + offers excellent corrosion resistance in various environments. As a hard chrome replacement, it maintains resilience even against occasional impact damage, making it an optimal choice for situations requiring improved wear and corrosion resistance.
